4. The Active Remote Sensing Unit (TA)
The Active Remote Sensing unit has the objective
to carry out research related to the generation and analysis of spaceborne,
airborne and ground-based data and to develop thereof scientific and technical
applications. As its name indicates, the activities of the TA unit are related
to active sensor types, as for example Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Laser
Scanners. Nevertheless, TA has experience with passive sensors that produce for
instance optical images.
From the applications point of view TA is highly
specialized in the measurement and monitoring of deformations. In addition the
unit's curriculum includes works in other applications like Digital Terrain
Model generation among others. These are the fundamental research areas of the
TA unit:

7. Selection procedure
The selection procedure
includes the steps detailed below.
The
evaluation procedure includes a first screening of the received applications by
competent researchers of the IG, based on technical and scientific potential.
The results of this first evaluation stage will be notified to each candidate
within one week after the submission deadline. Those candidates selected in the
first stage will then be contacted by the IG personnel to coordinate the second
stage evaluation. At this stage the selection procedure may involve a personal
interview where cooperative skills and scientific vision may be evaluated. The
final results of the selection will be communicated to all remaining candidates
no later than one month after the submission deadline.
-
After the communication of the selection
results, the selected candidate has two weeks to accept the PhD fellowship. Not
acceptance may allow access to the fellowship for the next best pre-selected
candidate or, where necessary, may cause a new call for applications.
-
Following, the selected candidate and IG
agree on the starting date of the PhD fellowship, and cooperate in the
following steps:
-
Visa application process (if applicable),
-
Other administrative accomplishments necessary before arriving to IG,
-
Collecting the documentation needed to enrol in a doctorate programme.
